Local Interest
As early as the Iron Age, the Welsh Marches were in frequent conflict, and it was King Offa who tried to keep the rebellious Welsh at bay by building the first barricade along the borders called Offa's Dyke. Even after all these battles, the Welsh Marches remain an area of outstanding natural beauty, offering todays explorer numerous sites to experience, natural and man-made wonders.
Activities
Walking
Offa's Dyke Path was built by Offa, King of Mercia in 757
to 796AD. The dyke formed the boundary between England and Wales,
running 182 miles from Prestatyn in the North to near Chepstow in
the South. Offa's dyke is a walk packed with interest over high
ground with commanding views into the mountains and valleys, it's
a walk through history.
Cycling
Cycling is an ideal way of enjoying the countryside and wildlife.
The area has much to offer leisure cyclists, from quiet country
lanes and byways suitable for families and touring to wild off-road
tracks providing exhilarating riding for mountain bikers and trail
enthusiasts. This area boasts the highest density of green lanes
in Britain, for mountain bike trials they are generally regarded
as having the highest offroad content. In addition to long distance
routes, many local route networks are being developed, providing
ideal circular day rides to suit all levels around Presteigne and
Knighton.
Shooting Griffin Lloyd shooting ground is situated
at Llangunllo. It offers a wide variety of clay target shooting
to suit all standards. As one of the largest growing sports, clay
target shooting has alot to offer the individual. Now being introduced
is the new simulated game shooting. Game shooting can be arranged
(given enough notice).

as does the nearby river Wye.

Wildlife Woodland on the farm itself, extends
to 35 acres making it a joy to pop out into your "back yard"
and watch the many birds and wildlife which make this wood their
home. Because traditional farming techniques have survived well
in this area, the hedges, old oak woods and hay meadows provide
a habitat for a wealth of wildlife, wether it is a majestic buzzard
soaring overhead or a timid roe deer grazing happily. See Red Kites
feeding at Gilgrin Farm.
Gardens
Four acres containing a walled garden can be found at Knill.
Hergest Croft Gardens at Kington
Perhaps as interesting, are the many private gardens which are open
to the general public during the summer months. These can be from
the smallest, unique cottage garden to the more lavish and grander
manor gardens, all, however, reflecting the enthusiasm of keen owners.
Golf Courses Kington - the highest 18 hole golf
course in England with fantastic views. On the 8th tee you have
